Trowbridge Wanderers 0 Malmesbury Vics 1

A SUPERB finish by Vics' hotshot Ed Wilkins was enough to take Malmesbury to the top of the table against a strong Trowbridge side.

The visitors pressed forward from the start, creating chances against a panicked defence.

Captain Ant Brown and Allan Webb saw shots cleared off the line and two Alan Griffin attempts went close.

Just before the break a Ewen Kenny free kick, from outside the box, seemed destined for the back of the net, but with the keeper beaten it was deflected over the bar and the game remained goalless at the break.

From the restart Wanderers pushed more players forward but could find no way past a resolute Vics defence.

The all-important goal came in the 75th minute; after excellent build-up play involving Griffin and Kenny, an inch-perfect cross from Brown was headed home powerfully by Wilkins.

Clever play by Malmesbury saw them run the clock down as a desperate home side were reduced to long ball tactics which seldom bothered the capable visiting defenders.

MoM: Ed Wilkins.
