Letcombe 3 Purton 2
PURTON completed their league fixtures on Wednesday after a three-week break and lost 3-2 at Letcombe to finish sixth in the Hellenic Div One West table, writes Alan Eastwood.
A disappointing run of results in October and again in late March/April derailed their season.
However, manager Justin Miller's first campaign in charge also saw an unbeaten 14-match run in the league.
In the game at Letcombe, the hosts took the lead at a corner after 17 minutes but Lewis Page equalised for Purton on 31 minutes only for Letcombe to net a second on a breakaway.
They also added a third a minute before the break.
Marcus Hall reduced the arrears for Purton after 48 minutes and Paul Carson hit the woodwork with a header, but they could not get back into it.
Purton will be holding their annual presentation night at the Red House on Saturday, May 9 at 7.30pm, with the AGM following at the same venue on Saturday, June 13 at 12.30pm.
Next season the first team will continue to play in Div One West of the Hellenic League and the club are hoping to run a reserve side in Div Two West.
The club are also looking for an Honorary Secretary for the forthcoming season. Anyone interested should contact Alan Eastwood on 01793 729844 or at alan.eastwood83@ntlworld.com.
