MALMESBURY’S Danny Kent secured his first win of the Moto3 season in dominant style at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas this weekend.

Kent, 21, got his usual steady start off the line and appeared to sit back from the leaders during the opening laps as he assessed the condition of the damp track.

Once the Leopard Racing rider had the feel of the surface he soon pushed on.

Having reached the front on the third lap he never looked back, maintaining his lead in an incident packed race.

Starting from pole position for the third time in his career, Kent had stunningly fast pace all weekend which he showcased during the 18 lap race, crossing the line eight seconds ahead of French rookie Fabio Quartararo.

Kent was overjoyed to secure his fourth Grand Prix win in Moto3 and the first of two British GP wins in America.

He said: “I’m very pleased with this victory, because we had a strong pace all weekend.

“My strategy for the day was to pull away straight from the beginning, but going on the grid I changed my plan due to the track conditions.

“After the start I dropped back a few positions because there were some wet patches on the track.

“But step by step I went faster and faster and I was able to close the gap on the front group and take the lead.

“Next time I had a look on the board I saw eight-seconds and from this point on it was all about concentration and staying on the bike.

“Leading the field I could choose my line however I went in trying to avoid hitting a damp patch on track.

“But I brought it home safely so I’m really happy, even more to win in this way and also for the lead in the world standings.

“But we need to keep our feet on the ground because there are 16 races remaining."

Kent heads to the third round of the season in Argentina next weekend leading the Moto3 World Championship standings by eight points.
