GLOUCESTERSHIRE and Somerset PGA captain Nick Ellis claimed his second win of the season at Long Ashton GC with a one-over par round of 72.

The Naunton Downs professional used some clever club selection to compile his winning score.

Ellis held a two-stroke advantage over second-placed George Ryall on 74.

With some of the pin positions in devilish spots it was no surprise that none of the entrants matched par. Stories of experienced pros five-putting showed how difficult and frustrating it was.

Cirencester head pro Ed Goodwin shot a five-over par 76 to earn a tie for fourth place.

Ellis' round contained three birdies which came at the 8th, 16th and 18th to go with bogeys at the 1st, 3rd, 9th and 17th leaving him at +1.

He used his putter to good effect from off the putting surface to give himself improved chances of holing out.

This result strengthens Ellis’ fourth place in the Total Triumph Order of Merit as he tries to break his way into the top three.

Goodwin remains in second spot behind runaway leader Giuseppe Licata.
