Swindon Parkrun, 5km trails

WENDY NICHOLLS, after her disappointment last week at the National Duathlon Championships, bounced back on Saturday with a sixth place overall and a ladies win in 19.15 at Lydiard Park, Swindon Parkrun.

The younger generation is also making its mark as 12-year-old Luke Buck set another PB and was first JM11-14 while mum Caroline was second to Wendy in the VW45-59 category. The gritty Gordon Jones was second MV65 and Barbara Thomas first FV55.

Results: 1, Lawrence Winter 17.51; 6, Wendy Nicholls 19.15; 26, Luke Buck 21.55; 43, Gordon Jones 22.40; 99, David Moss 24.34; 128, Caroline Buck 25.22; 180, Barbara Thomas 27.17; 433 finished.

Forest of Dean Spring Half-Marathon, 13.1 miles, trails/road

TOP triathlete Steve Yates ran well on his first major outing of the year, finishing in 13th place with a solid run of 1:23.31.

Training partners Dan Finchett and Fi Collings ran controlled races and Trudy Compton put some of her injury difficulties behind her to run competitively. Another injured runner, Karen Higuera, got under two hours while a lame Michael Thomas was last man home.

Whitehorse Half Marathon, Grove, Wantage. 13.1 miles roads

PETER NUNN had a good run and finished just outside the 90-minute mark with a 1:30.21. Keith Firkin, becoming one of the club’s elder statesmen, put in a respectable 1:42.01. The winner was James Bolton (Woodstock Harriers) in 1:14.32 and 471 finished.

Bowood Park 10km, Calne, multi-terrain

DAVID EDELSTEN enjoyed the good life as he competed in the grand surroundings of the hilly but scenic Bowood House course.

He ran a 1:03.55 and was 141st out of 174 finishers. The winner was Matthew Battensby (Bristol and West AC) who won in a quick 33.59.

Official results are still not in for the Hogsweed Hilly Half but we can report that Howard Ewan was ninth overall and Liza Darroch achieved another age-group win. Full results next week.
