Trowbridge Town 1 Malmesbury Vics 3

MALMESBURY VICS gained a dominant win in the battle of two in-form sides.

In their previous 10 games Trowbridge had been beaten just once while Malmesbury were undefeated.

On a blustery afternoon, Trowbridge found it difficult to clear their lines as the Vics searched for the opening goal.

After enjoying the majority of the play, Malmesbury took the lead in the 16th minute. Ewen Kenny's cross from the right was parried by the keeper and Ed Wilkins was on hand to knock the ball home.

The home side, playing up the slope and against the wind, were restricted to the occasional breakaway as the visitors increased the pressure.

Sam Jenner was unlucky from the edge of the box and Allan Webb brought a smart stop from the keeper. Then Alan Griffin rose to head a free kick from Jenner against the post.

But in the 42nd minute Sam Parker swept the ball home to make it 2-0 at the interval.

Trowbridge sent more men forward at the start of the second half, but a resolute defence and a hard working midfield, meant that Jack Haines in the Vics goal was rarely troubled.

It was the visitors who increased the lead in the 79th minute when Wilkins was first to follow up a Griffin free kick, to grab his second and Malmesbury's third.

Just before the end, following a long free kick, Matt Sharp grabbed a consolation goal for the hosts with a smart finish.
