Cirencester Colts 18 Drybrook Colts 12

CIRENCESTER Colts ran out narrow winners over Drybrook in a hastily-arranged friendly at The Whiteway after both sides had cup games cancelled.

An unusually lethargic start saw the hosts concede an early unconverted try but they then dominated the remainder of the half, showing some good handling skills.

They were, however, unable to break down a resolute Drybrook defence until Jamie Watts scored an unconverted try with the final play of the half.

Early home pressure was instantly rewarded at the start of the second half as a wayward Drybrook kick was caught by Tom Elsey who ran in virtually unopposed for another home unconverted try.

The visitors responded instantly, working some tight phases to create an overlap to score out wide. The conversion gave Drybrook a 12-10 lead.

With the game opening up, the more adventurous hosts scored again through Elsey.

Another superb break from deep should have brought a fourth home try until a knock-on close to the line.

The set piece scrum restart was won against the head by the hosts and duly a won penalty at the subsequent breakdown, this was kicked so the hosts could extend their lead to 18pts to 12 which was held despite a late period of sustained pressure as Drybrook desperately sought a final match winning score.
