DESPITE not playing on Saturday, CHQ United’s hopes of successfully defending their M4 Karting Cirencester & District Division One title were given a boost when table-toppers South Cerney suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Poulton.

Although they hold a 10-point advantage over CHQ, South Cerney still have to meet their main rivals home and away, and the title could go down to the last game of the season.

Both sides have some difficult fixtures in the interim and there could yet be more twists and turns in the title race.

James Hayward and Steve Andrews scored for the league leaders, but two John Dawson strikes and goals from Dan Read and Tom Carpenter took the points for Poulton who moved into second spot.

In the only other Division One game played in what was a very reduced programme, bottom-of-the-table The Beeches earned a creditable 2-2 draw at Bibury Reserves, thanks to goals from Sam Clarke and Trevor Hillier.

The Division Two title race could also be a close-run thing, particularly after long-time leaders Wroughton Town Reserves were held 2-2 at Ashton Keynes. Lee Curtis and Jamie Pidgeon were on target for the visitors.

Siddington Sports Veterans picked up three points in their quest for the title with a close 3-2 home win over Minchinhampton Town Reserves.

Blunsdon FC recorded a good home win in beating Stratton United 5-0, with the goalscorers being Tom Moreland (2), Jordan Hill, Jake Bailey and Mounir Amri. CHQ United Reserves edged out Sherston with a 2-1 away win.

The finalists of the CIA-sponsored Mills Roberts Cup were decided last week when goals from Jake Bailey, Connor Dettmar and Luke Styles gave Blunsdon FC a 3-1 win over Oaksey Reserves, for whom Gareth Jones responded. Blunsdon will face Siddington Sports Veterans in the final after they beat Wroughton Town Reserves 3-2 in a strongly-contested tie. Dennis King, Declan King and Justin Lowe got the goals for the victors, with an own goal and Adam Leighfield responding for the losers.

On Monday night, Oaksey made it through to the final of the Alexcars Senior Charities final when beating Lechlade 2-1 at Fairford Town FC.

Oaksey were somewhat fortunate as Lechlade hit the woodwork four times and Oaksey's two goals from the prolific pairing of Phil Hall and Jake Peglar, came a minute either side of half- time. Oaksey's keeper also played a blinder.
