THE Duke of Beaufort point-to-point at Didmarton near Tetbury on Saturday – one of the premier courses in the country – could see a landmark winner for Coln Rogers rider Mark Wall.

It is hard to believe that at this stage of the season Wall is still waiting for his first win.

That's particularly frustrating as the point-to-point champion rider has been left hanging on the 199-winner mark for several weeks.

Walls best chance could be in the 4-5-6-7-year-old Maiden when he partners Wy Worry.

Wall's mount led for a long way on his racecourse debut and was still in front with two to jump before those efforts took their toll. There was a lot to like about that performance.

Little Sodbury rider Charlie Dando and Dursley owner Tim Sage are likely to be in opposition during the Members' Race.

Sage holds a strong hand with Perfectly Willing or Presentandcorrect. Ballinla showed glimpses of form last year but his presence depends on a mid-week blood test.

David Fitch-Peyton has travelled the world but has now settled down at the Whitley Stud at nearby Leigherton. Bound for Glory beat a competitive field in a Ladies Open at Higham a few weeks ago but would have to shoulder a penalty for that success, which may rule him out of this contest.

Chippenham-based Michael Hawker has won this race numerous times in the past but his representative Cecile De Volanges will need to improve on recent performances to take a hand in the finish.

What a Friend returns to the point-to-point field after having a chequered career under Rules. He comes from a good stable and would take a lot of beating if anywhere near his best.

The quick draining course is unlikely to be testing and that could throw up some surprise results because most of the runners have spent the early part of the season ploughing through the mud.

Cold Knight missed out at Chaddesley due to a minor injury but his form prior to that puts him in with a favourite's chance in the Conditions Race.

Disabled war veteran Guy Disney is likely to be reunited with Ballycassel in this race and the partnership went close to success at Larkhill recently. They may need to get first run on their rivals if they are to succeed.

The Restricted is a potential target for the Tom Weston-trained Soixante Six. He looked a useful recruit when winning on his debut last year but his progress has been hampered by jumping problems. If his last two efforts are taken at face value these issues appear resolved and if that is the case, he will take all the beating.

The Open Maiden features Porlock Bay who has finished in the runners-up spot on two occasions for At the Races front man and ex-jockey Luke Harvey. The opposition looks moderate and this is probably his best chance of success thus far.

Certain Flight is sure to start a short-priced favourite for the Mixed Open but it would be a good battle if Perfectly Willing lined up in this contest, instead of the Members.

First race: 12.30pm; pony racing commences 11.30am.
