Malmesbury Vics 5 Devizes Town 1

MALMESBURY VICS recorded a fine win over Devizes Town despite being without three suspended players.

The home side were the quickest to find their rhythm and took an early lead when youth player Ewen Kenny fired home from close range in the eighth minute after an Ant Brown cross.

Malmesbury continued to dominate and increased their lead in the 22nd minute when Sam Parker was on hand to tuck the ball home after a good save by the visiting keeper.

A minute later it was 3-0 when Will Picter finished well after some great build-up play between Alan Griffin and Kenny.

Devizes were rewarded for their endeavour after 28 minutes when, following a corner, Ben Giles steered the ball home as the defence hesitated.

The Vics finished the half strongly, however, with livewire veteran Allan Webb and Parker both failing to convert chances.

Malmesbury continued to play some excellent flowing football after the break.

Their three-goal cushion was restored in the 58th minute. A surging run by Picter took him past three players before he selflessly rolled the ball for Parker to find the net.

Parker was unlucky in the 75th minute when he was deemed offside after a fine finish. Webb went close with a bicycle kick and Aggie Hext fired just over from 20 yards as the home side battled to increase their lead.

It was Brown who sealed the win from the spot in the 80th minute after Picter was brought down in the box.
