Cirencester Men's II 5 Cheltenham D 2

CIRENCESTER seconds twice came from behind to record a fine win over Cheltenham thanks to a sterling second half display.

Cirencester were asleep at the outset when Cheltenham took a free hit quickly and scored to make it 1-0.

Minutes later Ollie Latter broke free to score the equaliser.

It was an even half but Cheltenham's last attack resulted in a controversial goal just before the break.

An offence was ignored in the build-up and although the ball also hit Jason Muir's foot, advantage was played and after a brief discussion between the officials the goal was allowed to stand.

After a tactical switch at the interval and some Churchillian words from Chris Pollard a different side emerged for the final half and the display matched the improved weather with sun replacing the hailstones.

It was one of the team's best halves all season.

Continued pressure was exerted and the team defended from the front through Latter and John Tirrill, who both collected new bruises from persistently lifted clearances.

The Cheltenham goalkeeper had already shown his worth in the first half and continued to make some great saves, but after a switched short corner he was unable to prevent Latter's equalising flick.

Ciren continued to attack and distribute the ball well, in contrast to the first half.

Attacks were mounted on both flanks and after a surge by Latter he slipped the ball to left back Chris Thompson who finished.

Paul Anstee then came into his own, turning Cheltenham's defenders inside out before pressing the 'laser shot option' on his hand console and letting rip.

The shot crashed into the far side board to make it 4-2.

In the final moments Latter once again found himself in the perfect spot to slot another goal from close range to make the final score 5-2.

MoM: Paul Anstee.

Cirencester III 6 Newent B 0

THE Men’s thirds continue to excel with another win, this week a convincing 6-0 success over Newent B.

Lansdown IV 0 Cirencester Ladies II 7

THE ladies' seconds had a convincing win against Lansdown of Cheltenham.

Ciren made a strong start, using the full width of the pitch and converting four goals by half-time. The pressure did not ease in the second period as the squeeze came from the midfield and another wave of attacks produced a further three goals for the final 7-0 scoreline.

The goals came from Jenny Jones (3), Sarah Taylor (3) and Manda Bloomer.

PoM: Ellie Jones.

WITHOUT a game at the weekend the ladies' firsts gathered at Deer Park for some practice flicks before heading for a run through the stunning grassy avenues of Cirencester Park.

The girls managed a hilly four-mile run which burned off approximately 400 calories ahead of their fancy dress social at the The Crown that evening.
