Malmesbury Victoria Res 1 Poulton 0
HIGH-FLYING Poulton were brought down to earth by a competent performance from a youthful Vics side at the Flying Monk Ground.
The Vics midfield was outstanding throughout, never allowing their counterparts to settle. The winning goal came in the 17th minute when Malmesbury striker Jordan Matthews took the ball on his chest and fired home.
Chances came and went to increase the lead but were squandered.
Poulton upped their game for the last 20 minutes and on two or three occasions late on they looked likely to grab an equaliser, but they could not find a way past home keeper George Royle.
Poulton will probably be glad to see the back of January. Previously unbeaten, this was their third defeat since the turn of the year.
Vics' MoM: Sam Lawro.
