Gloucestershire AAA road race series

FOUR Cirencester AC athletes earned medals in the year-long Gloucestershire AAA road race series in which they had to compete in up to eight of the 12 events.

Last Friday, at the Civic Suite on Gloucester Docks, road race series secretary Lynn Hudson and husband Steve ably announced the awards and Gloucester mayor Deb Llewellyn entertainingly presented the medals and trophies.

The Cirencester winners were Simon Campbell, who got a silver in the open category, the highest open ranking achieved by the club.

Barbara Thomas competed in every FV55 event to achieve a well-deserved silver.

There were two gold performances in the Veteran 65 category with Ruth Fulford convincingly winning the ladies' category while Tony Shelbourn took until the last event to clinch his gold.

Swindon and Cheltenham Parkruns – 5km trails

ON an icy, snowy morning with some very slippery conditions there were few PBs but with 397 and 432 finishers the Saturday morning regulars turned out in decent numbers.

In Swindon, David Moss (24.01) ran a steady pace to finish 79th prior to a race the following day and Barbara Thomas (29.50) ran to a gentle 213th. The winner was Damien Grace in 18.42.

Meanwhile in Cheltenham, two Cirencester runners, more used to marathons than 5km races, tried a Parkrun for the first time.

Rupert Chesmore (24.14) cruised to 102nd while partner Liza Darroch (28.31) zipped to a 241st place, winning the FV65 category. Lee Perry won in 18.01.

THE series continued with a new course at Bath Racecourse.

David finished 155th out of 716 finishers and the winner was Scott Seefeldt in 39.27.
