Cricklade 10 Fairford 21

FAIRFORD beat a resilient Cricklade side who offered little in attack but were stubborn to the end.

The game started evenly with neither side able to maintain any pressure in opposition territory. The scrum proved even but Fairford edged the line-out contest.

It took until late on in the first period for the deadlock to be broken. Prop Ben Goodey started a marauding run, beating several players and setting up Charlie Peck to score his first try for the club.

At the break Fairford were told to up their game as the fixture was there for the taking.

They promptly responded with a strong rolling maul which gave them a good platform.

From there fly half Ed Keogh was able to pick out a perfectly-timed run from Peck who doubled his account on the afternoon.

This gave Fairford renewed confidence and they soon found their rhythm.

After a strong scrum the pack drove over the line and Chris Tanner was able to claim a try.

A mixture of fatigue and complacency then allowed Cricklade back into the game. They maintained possession well and moved the ball surprisingly effectively.

Eventually the Fairford defence ran out of steam and despite good tackles from MoM Jake Page-Maskell, Cricklade eventually scored two consolation tries, both unconverted.
