THE Alexcars-sponsored Charities Cups took centre stage last weekend, with some interesting results in the first round games.

In the Senior Cup, holders CHQ Utd went through comfortably by beating Poulton 5-0, the visitors unable to transfer their unbeaten league form to the cup competition.

The result could have been different if Poulton had not squandered their chances, and they regretted their misses as at the other end, Joe Grafton with a hat-trick, Fabian Daniels and a Delroy Fallon own-goal saw CHQ romp home.

Swindon-based Intel FC are starting to show some good form as they recorded their seventh straight victory in all competitions to beat visitors Highworth Town Development 4-0, with Adam O'Bree notching all the goals for the home side.

Oaksey were heading for a comfortable passage at Minchinhampton Town where they led 8-2 thanks to a brace of goals apiece from Phil Hall, Jake Pegler and Bradley Wickson, with the others from George Crotty and an own goal, before player misconduct caused the referee to abandon the game.

The match is sure to feature on the agenda of the Cirencester League's management committee meeting this week.

In a tie played in midweek, Malmesbury Victoria Reserves and Bibury Reserves fought out a nine-goal thriller with Malmesbury eventually edging out their visitors 5-4.

Jonathan Wilkins, with four goals was on target for the victors, with an own goal completing their scoring. Bibury responded with two goals from Stephen Pitt, with Tom Montgomery and Alisdair Ross getting the others.

Stroud FC received a walkover into the next round when scheduled opponents Siddington Sports were unable to raise a side.

In the Junior Cup, all eyes were on the clash between Siddington Sports Veterans who hosted previously unbeaten Wroughton Town Reserves, and it was the Veterans who used their experience to win an excellent match 5-3. Goals from Steve Leighfield, Jamie Pidgeon and Steven Nesbitt were in vain for the visitors.

Minety and Minchinhampton Town Reserves were involved in a close tie at the Wiltshire side's ground with the visitors getting the upper hand in a 2-1 victory. Steve Nurden was the Minety scorer.

Down Ampney were 3-1 winners at South Cerney Reserves.

The scheduled ties between Oaksey Reserves and Ashton Keynes and Blunsdon and CHQ Reserves were victims of the wet weather, but will be played this weekend.

In the only league game played, Division One relegation-threatened Lechlade 87 FC and The Beeches had to settle for a point and a goal each, with Ollie Waite scoring for Lechlade and Sam Clarke for The Beeches.
