FA Youth Cup Third Round Qualifying

Weston-super-Mare 3 Cirencester Academy 1

CIRENCESTER Academy’s run in the FA Youth Cup came to an end on Monday night when they went down 3-1 at Weston-super-Mare.

It was a case of what might have been for Steve Lowndes’ youngsters who went 1-0 ahead early on after Max Lloyd was fouled in the box and the penalty dispatched. Cirencester dominated the first half and had enough chances to be 3-0 up at the break.

Weston scored two quick goals early in the second half and Ciren were required to chase the game.

In the closing seconds, Ciren’s goalie Josh Langley joined his attack at a corner – had a chance to score the equaliser himself – but when the ball broke, Weston were able to counter and score into an empty net, which gave the hosts a flattering victory.

Cirencester had come through three previous rounds of the competition including a defeat of Forest Green Rovers.

The impressive performance by 16-year-old Lloyd earned him a place on the bench for the Cirencester Town first team at Bideford 24 hours later.

The current FA Youth Cup holders are Chelsea, who are managed by former Cirencester Town boss Adi Viveash.
