THERE was a silver lining to the sad postponement of the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday when young Polish prospect Tobiasz Musielak was able to gain some valuable track time at Swindon.

Musileak, 21, is rumoured to be a Robins target for the 2015 season and had travelled from Poland specifically to line-up in the Kilby Select side.

Robins bosses elected to pull the plug on the event hours before it was scheduled to take place rather than run a sub-standard meeting after a number of late drop-outs.

Musielak, who helped Poland win the Junior World Team Championship in 2012, took the opportunity to put in a large number of impressive practice laps.

In his corner was former Swindon legend Leigh Adams’ ex-chief mechanic Mariusz Szmanda. Musielak rides for Adams’ long-term Polish team Leszno.

The rescheduled Bob Kilby meeting will now open the 2015 season on Thursday, March 26.

Robins boss Alun Rossiter said on the day of the postponement: “This is a major disappointment for everyone at the club and it’s with great regret that we’ve taken this decision which is down to a series of unforeseen circumstances.

“Stevie Worrall unfortunately broke his wrist on Tuesday, and two of our main draws in terms of special guest riders are also unable to ride.

“Shawn McConnell has been ruled out by work permit issues and Charlie Gjedde has been unable to travel as he has urgent business to attend to with his work.

“I’ve tried all sorts of riders to replace them but there is a serious lack of availability.

“I’ve spoken to Lee Kilby (Bob’s son) and we are all in agreement that it is better to postpone the meeting and run it at the start of 2015 with a line-up that does the event justice.”

There was consolation for Worrall when he picked up the Rider of the Year award at the Robins’ Supporters Club dinner and dance on Saturday.

Rosco praised Worrall for always listening and taking on board what he is told.

Captain Troy Batchelor won the top bonus points award.
