Purton 0 Longlevens AFC 2
PURTON lost their fourth league game in a row on Saturday as runaway leaders Longlevens AFC took the points thanks to two late goals, writes Alan Eastwood.
Purton went into the game at the Red House minus skipper Marcus Hall and Steven May but nonetheless put in a much-improved performance.
They more than matched their high-flying opponents and despite keeper Johnny Cowley making a couple of good saves the home side could have been 2-0 up at the break after Ben Carter and Steve Davies went close.
Purton's resolute defence thwarted all the away side's efforts in the second half and as in the first period they had the majority of the possession with Carter just a whisker away from scoring in the 66th minute with a great header.
In the 84th minute, Longlevens netted following a deep cross from the right that keeper Cowley failed to reach and Brad Martin headed home.
In injury time there was another cruel blow for Purton when a Longlevens effort went in off a home defender.
On the day Purton were the better team but got nothing out of the game.
