BARNSLEY-BASED jump jockey Tom Garner made the perfect comeback from his latest injury setback when riding Come On Laurie to victory for his boss Oliver Sherwood at Uttoxeter on Thursday.
Garner, 24, had been sidelined for four months with a broken leg having previously had to endure no fewer than eight broken collarbones and a broken wrist.
His recovery came just too late to ride the previous Sunday in the infamous Velka Pardubicka, the Czech Republic’s equivalent of the Grand National.
Garner had been offered the chance to ride 77-1 shot Al Jaz who almost caused one of the great upsets in the long history of the race when beaten less than one length by the odds-on favourite Orphee Des Blins.
