Melksham Town Res 5 Malmesbury Vics 2

LEAGUE leaders Melksham confirmed their place in the table against fourth-placed Malmesbury but they did concede their first goals in more than 750 minutes of football.

Melksham dominated the early stages and deservedly took the lead in the 26th minute when an unchallenged Lee Fielding headed home.

They doubled their lead in the 45th minute when Jamie Broom was allowed to run through and finish.

Straight from the restart Malmesbury managed to grab a goal back with their first real threat of the game when Sam Parker headed home a Tyler Quinnell cross.

Malmesbury upped their work rate at the start of the second half, passing the ball far better than in the first, but it was Tom Robinson who increased the home side's lead in the 52nd minute, when he struck a ferocious shot from the edge of the box which flew into the back of the net.

Eight minutes later, Will Stead got the goal his performance deserved when he dummied the Vics defence and fired past the keeper.

Malmesbury never gave up and Parker headed his second following an Ant Brown free kick in the 68th minute.

Three minutes later Brown himself almost scored but was denied by an outstanding save.

The hosts wrapped up the points in the 79th minute when Amilio Menghino tucked the ball home to give Melksham a well-deserved win.
