Junior Premier League
Cirencester Town u14s 5 Newport County U14s 0
CIRENCESTER TOWN put in a fine all-round squad performance to beat last season's Junior Premier League champions Newport 5-0.
The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes when skipper Rhys Sarson slotted home after a strong mazy run.
The second half mirrored the first – a full bloodied, committed and skilful game which ebbed and flowed.
The Ciren forwards were causing all sorts of problems for the Newport defenders, with Adam Thorn particularly lively, and he got his reward with a clinically taken goal to make it 2-0.
Newport pushed hard to get back into the game but Ciren defended with great organisation and hit Newport repeatedly on the break. On one such raid in the 50th minute Sarson scored with a fine header.
Another incisive run from Sarson saw him finish with aplomb to complete a marvellous hat-trick. Newport won a penalty when Charlie Cole brought down a Newport attacker in the box, but the keeper redeemed himself with a marvellous full length save.
Then, on 75 minutes, a free kick played into the box was headed neatly home by Morgan Seatter to make the score 5-0 to Ciren.
