SOUTH CERNEY, Division One pacesetters in the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League, bounced back from their first defeat the previous week at Oaksey, by hammering struggling The Beeches 10-1.

Cerney now have a seven-point lead over second-placed Poulton who were without a game, but now have two games in hand.

The Beeches remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Another struggling side are Lechlade, who lost 7-0 at home to Siddington Sports with all the goals coming in the second half. The score may have been different if the home side had taken some good early chances.

Reigning champions CHQ Utd suffered their second successive defeat when they were beaten 4-0 at Intel, for whom Adam O’Bree hit a hat-trick and Mike Taylor scored the other.

Highworth Town Development and Stroud FC fought out a 1-1 draw with Dominic Gordon scoring for Highworth and Jack Bonser for Stroud. Bibury Reserves are slowly starting to make an impression and could be title challengers. They picked up three points with a resounding 8-2 victory at home to Malmesbury Vics Reserves.

Unbeaten Division Two leaders Wroughton Town Reserves remain in pole position as they comfortably saw off visitors Lechlade Reserves 8-2, with Daryl Chambers and Steven Nesbitt both getting hat-tricks. Two further goals came from Steve Leighfield.

Second-placed Down Ampney’s 100 per cent record went when they were surprisingly held 1-1 at home by South Cerney Reserves. Also unbeaten are Siddington Sports Veterans, who unfortunately postponed their fixture after the sudden death of their captain John Reeves’ father Ben.

The league send their condolences to the family.

Blunsdon FC moved further up the table after a good 8-2 victory at Minchinhampton Town Reserves. Eric Barnett and Craig Pugh were the home side’s scorers with Lee Bader, Leon Reason and Adam Turner all scoring twice for Blunsdon. Jake Bailey and an own goal completed the scoring.

Sherston also consolidated their mid-table position with a 2-0 home win over Minety, but they had to wait until the last 10 minutes before Will Heaton and Alex Scott secured the points. Ashton Keynes remain in fourth place after they beat Tetbury Town III 2-0, and Oaksey Reserves continued their good form with a 3-2 victory at CHQ Utd Reserves.

Gareth Jones maintained his goal-a-game ratio with a brace, while Adam Topping was also on the score sheet for the victors.
