FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

Wells City 0 Cirencester College Academy 2

CIRENCESTER earned an away tie at Weston-super-Mare (October 21) in the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup with a victory at Wells City.

From the first whistle it was Cirencester who carried the threat and they eventually took the lead through Will Thorne after his good turn and shot from the edge of the area.

Jack Harris could have doubled Cirencester's lead, but blazed over the bar from a cross by Joe Hoskins.

Minutes later, after a Cirencester corner, Dan Comer missed an open goal from inside the Wells six-yard box.

Wells had a good chance to level just before half-time after a mistake in the Cirencester defence but Josh Langley made an excellent save to preserve his clean sheet.

The second half saw Cirencester continue to push forward for the second goal and they were again guilty of missing good chances.

However, Comer did atone for his earlier miss when he climbed the highest in the Wells penalty area to meet an excellent George Thrussell cross and head home past the despairing dive of the goalkeeper.

Assistant coach Will Morford said: "We are obviously really pleased with the effort and endeavour shown by the boys.

"We put in a professional performance against a hard-working Wells side and could have won the game by more in the end."
