GFA Challenge Trophy Round Two

Cirencester Town 2 Gala Wilton 2

(Ciren won 4-3 on penalties)

CIRENCESTER TOWN's development side required penalties to get past the nine men of Gala Wilton in a bruising County Cup encounter at the Corinium Stadium.

The physical Gala players began by trying to intimidate Ciren and the ref's whistle became a regular feature of the night.

However, in the fourth minute Ciren's attacks paid off when Scott Reynolds bundled the ball home.

On 26 minutes a Gala player broke towards the box, Liam O’Brien brought him down and the penalty was given and duly dispatched.

Gala spent most of the half berating the referee and even two yellow cards within as many minutes didn’t stop the abuse.

In the 41st minute Kieran Jones latched on to a good through ball from Danny Gudger to make it 2-1.

The second half started with the Gala players continuing to object to every decision and in the 58th minute they got the equaliser.

Shortly afterwards a fracas on the touchline involving virtually all 22 players and both benches resulted in two Gala players and the Cirencester manager being sent off.

Ciren could not finish off their rivals despite the two-man advantage, and for the second time in their season a cup games went to penalties.

Reece Cass saved the first and fourth Gala penalties while Jacob Davidge, Tom Luce, Brad Hooper and Kieran Jones scored to put the development side through.
