Stratford’s Big 10km, roads

DAVE BELL, who won Stratford's Big 10k event in 2013 setting a course record in the process, has repeated the feat.

He knocked 34 seconds off last year's time, finishing in 32.21. 829 ran.

Cotswold Classic 10mile, Witney, roads ANOTHER excellent win for Ciren, this time by Chris Illman (54.20) who had to regain the lead and hold on for victory.

Simon Campbell (1:01.21), like Chris, had competed the previous day but battled headwinds and hills to finish 11th and Geoff Wells (1:19.51) ran consistently to finish 108th. 235 ran.

Midlands 6 Stage Relays, Sutton Coldfield, paved trails ALWAYS an excellent event in which there is competition from some of the UK’s top club runners and Cirencester came in a commendable 32nd out of 81 teams.

The CAC squad comprised Chris Illman, Denis Galerin, Simon Campbell, Bill Leggate, Martin Croucher and Ionel Iancu.

Overall winners were Bristol and West AC.

Ironman Wales – Triathlon ANDY GARDNER ran this tough Ironman in Tenby and reported that he completed the 2.5mile swim in 1hr 20min in very choppy seas.

The hilly Pembrokeshire coastline made for a challenging 112-mile bike section in 6hr 26min and he completed a 4hr 36min marathon giving an overall time of 12hr 21min.

He achieved a 14th age-group place and was 333rd overall out of 1,612 finishers.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km park trails MATT CREW came a close second and was first JM15-17 with a PB of 17.17 while brother Simon also set a PB and was first in the 11-14 category.

Other notable runs saw Peter Nunn finish ninth and Barbara Thomas achieve an age-group first.

Oaksey 10km, roads AN EXCELLENT local race run around deceptively challenging country lanes.

Second-time winner Jason Barry (37.34) of Stroud AC came in ahead of three Ciren runners – second placed Richard Hobbs (41.31), Howard Ewan who was third in 42.47 and fourth-placed Tony Shelbourn (43.11).

Ciren had a lady winner as Jo Roberts (52:34) came in 11th overall and Barbara Thomas (55.16) 15th. 23 ran.

Hogsweed Challenge - 15 miles, multi-terrain ANOTHER small, challenging race saw Martin Croucher (1:58.29) finishing third behind winner Jaroslaw Motyka (1:44.07). Jill Hadland (2:22.29) finished second lady in 12th spot. 16 ran.

Worcester 10km, roads REUBEN CHAMBERS won in 30.37 but the spotlight was on Paula Ratcliffe (35.49) who finished 21st overall as she sets her sights on London next year. Terry Ranger (47.26) was Ciren’s only runner and he was 269th . 1,399 ran.
