THE MAN who guided Stefan Bradl to the Moto2 world motorcycling title is taking Malmesbury’s Danny Kent under his wing.

Kent, 20, has endured a frustrating time for the second season in a row but his management team believe that a switch to German-based Kiefer Racing, run by Stefan Kiefer, will help the prodigiously talented racer to challenge at the sharp end of the world championships again.

Kent’s manager Roger Burnett, said: “When Bradl won the Moto2 title for Kiefer Racing in 2011 he was beating Marc Marquez (current runaway MotoGP leader) fair and square.

“People say Kiefer have done nothing since but they have never had the right level of budget.

“That will change next year when a big sponsor comes on board, which we will shortly be able to announce. So Danny will not only have the right people around him but the right level of funding.

“We also believe that in racing a Honda, who had the top two in the San Marino Moto3 Grand Prix at the weekend – as well as being the machine Marquez rides in MotoGP, Danny will be on a better bike than the KTM/Husqvarna he has been racing on this year.”

Kent’s career has definitely stalled since he won two late Grand Prix in the 2012 Moto3 season (Japan and Spain) which earned him a troubled ride for the Tech3 team in the Moto2 category the following year.

Even dropping back to Moto 3 in 2014 has not seen an upsurge in his fortunes and his third place finish in the recent Brno round was his only podium placing of the season so far.

Burnett admits to being disappointed with Kent’s latest effort in San Marino when he finished 12th.

“While Danny kept attacking he was up with the leaders but when he relaxed and started to race lazily he was being picked off,” said Burnett.

“Danny remains one of the most naturally gifted talents I have ever come across. He’s on a par with world champions like James Toseland, Neil Hodgson and Carl Fogarty in terms of talent, but for whatever reason it is not working for him so we have to try something different.

“I believe it will suit Danny better being the focus of attention in a smaller team.

"Stefan Kiefer is a nice guy, he knows the challenge with Danny and he is prepared to take it on."

Kent is currently 11th in the championship standings but Burnett predicts his young protege will finish the 2014 season with a flourish.

After the next round in Aragon the season takes in three races in long-haul destinations – Japan, Australia and Malaysia.

“I’m expecting his best results of the season in that trio of races,” said Burnett.

“Danny will be in a motorcycling bubble, a long way away from the distractions of family and friends at home, and that’s the situation in which he operates the best.”
