Cirencester Colts 0

Thornbury Colts 0

CIRENCESTER Colts played out a rare scoreless draw against a larger Thornbury side in their opening game of the season.

Understandably on the first day back both sides struggled for numbers which meant numerous players lined up out of position.

Thornbury also requested uncontested scrums as they could not field a recognised front row.

Cirencester made the brighter start and spent most of the first half deep in the visitors’ half, but Thornbury defended well.

Cirencester’s ability to react quickly to turnover ball looked their most likely means of scoring and a couple of chances were created only to be wasted.

The hosts also suffered a number of first-half injuries that shifted the game’s momentum as they went down to 13 players at one point.

The heavier Thornbury side began to exert some control in the second half.

They nearly scored on a number of occasions, prevented only by some commendable last-ditch defensive work.

Back to full strength, Cirencester enjoyed their best spell but both defences stayed resolute and the game finished with no score.
