TOM HOWSE of Deer Park Archers, has won individual silver at the Seoul International Youth Archery Festa – and came within a whisker of causing a major upset.
Facing No.1 seed Yong-Hwi Lee of Korea in the final, Tom fought back from an early deficit to take the lead at 4-2. It was tight but, eventually, the Korean wore him down and took the title 6-4.
Tom, who was a member of a nine-strong GB team, had finished 11th among 57 of the world’s top junior recurve archers in the qualifying round.
But he surprised all by making it through to the gold medal match with a series of victories over Ka Lok Ho of Hong Kong; American Sean Chang; sixth seed Shu Chieh Chang of Taipei; No.3 seed from Korea, Sung Woo Park, before getting past Luis Gabriel Moreno of the Philippines in the semi final showdown.
