THE Race to the Stones is an event which asks runners to 'follow the footsteps of Romans, Vikings, farmers and traders along the iconic Ridgeway to finish at the 3,000-year-old stone circle at Avebury'.

Race to the Stones, 100km multi-terrain

Rob Forbes ran an excellent race, finishing the 62-mile mile course in 9:06.15, just two minutes behind the winner.

Rob was some 11 minutes behind at the halfway point and was closing fast at the end in, to quote 'a relative sprint finish'.

Victory, we’re sure, awaits Rob next time. Meanwhile, team-mate Richard Hurdle set off well but, after some recent really tough ultra events, had to quit at the halfway mark with some electrolyte problems caused by the heat. 591 athletes finished the course.

The Long Course Weekend, Wales

ANDY GARDNER not only trains hard as a triathlete but also coaches regularly at Ciren AC. He needed his own advice to complete this Ironman event that is spread over three days. In the 2.4m Wales swim on Friday evening he just missed out on the hour with a 1:00.24.

He completed the Sportif on Saturday, a 112m bike ride in 6hr 35min followed on Sunday by a marathon (26.2 miles) in 3hr 52min.

Over the three events Andy finished 75th out more than 300 and although there were no age-group categories he said 'not bad for an over 50'.

Devil’s Chimney Chase, Leckhampton, 10km multi-terrain

ANOTHER tough event and it took its toll on Barbara Thomas who had run that morning. Barbara finished 160th in 1:06.05. The race was won by Anthony Bailey in 35.02 and 173 finished.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km park trails

MARK EDWARDS continues to use the race to improve his speed and came in 65th overall in 22.51. Barbara Thomas (26.17) took it a little easier to finish 142nd in an age-group third spot in 26.17. Owen Cima (Thrift Green Runners) won in 16.51 and 376 completed the course.
