THE Wychwood Oxfordshire Golf Club situated in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside is always a pleasure for a golf team to visit – even more delightful when they come away with an away win as was the case recently with the Cirencester seniors.

But the result was far from certain until the last match. The opening tussle was lost but the next won by club captain Mark Woodhead and John Thurston.

The comfortable win by Gordon Stone and Geoff Southwell by 4&3 was followed by a wide-margin 5&4 reverse. Last year's senior captain David Findlay and Mike Staples took their match 2&1 to give Cirencester the lead and Chris Berens and Alan Smith sewed things up with their 4&2 success.

CONDITIONS were super on when Cirencester hosted visitors Shrivenham Park and strolled home losing only one of the six matches.

Seniors captain Clive Bennett and Robert Evans won the opener by 3&1. John Canty and Dick Tugwell won theirs by 4 and 3. From hereon games were more closely fought , Chris Berens and Matthew Cusack wining 2&1, Dave Collett and David Findlay 1 up, and Ken Anderson and John Thurston by 2&1.

It was good to see Mike Brown back after his recent problems and he celebrated his return with a good win alongside partner Mike Helyer by 3&2.
