WITHOUT a league game, Cirencester seconds travelled to Fairford for a 40-over friendly and despite a superb bowling performance from teenage paceman Jake Holmes the Town went down to a two-wicket defeat.

Friendly

Fairford II 159-8

Cirencester II 157-7

Batting first, the Town made a shaky start losing their first three wickets cheaply before Dominic Jeffcott (47) and Dick Tugwell (29) shared a stand of nearly 80 for the fourth wicket.

They were both caught in the late chase for runs however and Town were restricted to 157-7.

Holmes, was quickly on the spot with his left-arm swing after tea taking two wickets in his first over and then two more in an initial five-over spell to leave Fairford floundering at 10-4.

Patrick Peake’s left arm pace then saw two further wickets tumble, but from then on the Fairford lower order gradually rallied as they passed the century mark without further loss.

Holmes came back to pick up two more wickets, finishing with 6-26, but still Fairford were undismayed.

Fairford skipper Colin Denness (33no) and tail-ender Tom Freeman (14no) saw their side home without further loss.
