HAVING suffered a narrow away defeat to Puckrup Hall in the first game of the season, the Cirencester ‘A’ Team were hoping to reverse the tables at home, and the new-look side pulled off a great result to win 5-1.

A Team

Cirencester 5, Puckrup Hall 1

With a number of regular players missing there were some new names in the team and some different partnerships.

Charlie Harraway and Mitch Caunt led the team out on this occasion.

There was very little in their game all afternoon, however, they managed to win the 16th and 17th holes to gain a vital point.

Notable victories by Hamish Mason and Tom Stone, with an overwhelming 7&6 win, and Jerry Homan-Green and James Collingwood, an equally impressive 6&5 were the highlights of the day.

Club captain Mark Woodhead made his ‘A’ Team debut partnering the reliable Chris Nevin. The new partnership played well and were all square with their opponents at the turn, but they eventually came up just short and was narrowly defeated.

B Team

Puckrup Hall 3, Cirencester 3

THE B Team played the reverse fixture away at Puckrop. It was through a mixture of good fortune and skilful play that they secured a creditable draw with two wins, two halves and two losses.

One of the victories was again captain Jonathan Wells and partner Paul Simmonds. Paul was undoubtedly the star of the day with his deft short game and putting expertise.

Captain Jonathan admitted his driving was as erratic as ever but he did manage to lure the opponents into a false sense of security allowing Paul to play all the golf. Finally, despite tasting defeat again, club stalwart Alan Dymond obtained some compensation by rolling back the years and winning the nearest the pin competition.
