ADRIAN WILLIAMS and Sarah Gunn, from the Cirencester Athletics Club, returned elated from their highly successful trip to the European Triathlon Championships in Austria.

Both exceeded their expectations in their age-group events with Adrian finishing 11th (and sixth British competitor) out of 45 finishers, while Sarah came home second Briton and sixth overall in a group of 19.

Adrian had his best swim ever knocking two minutes off his previous best.

The 42 km bike ride was particularly tough with many hills and sharp downhill turns, made more treacherous when Adrian's chain came off on one of the climbs.

By the time he switched to the 10km run the temperature had climbed to 30 degrees but he came home delighted to be ahead

of his target (in the top 10 British finishers) and only seven minutes behind the winner.
