Berkeley 10k, road race

SIMON CAMPBELL, with a season’s best, improved on his 2013 time with a 35.16 to finish fifth overall behind the high quality Cheltenham men’s team at the Berkeley 10k.

Jason Humm turned out for the club with a solid performance although racing newcomer Howard Ewan was disappointed having misjudged his race.

Tony Shelbourn was just slightly slower than last year to get an MV65 age-group first and Ruth Fulford achieved her win in the FV65 category.

Joanna Roberts improved on her best 10km time and Barbara Thomas turned in her usual good performance.

At this stage of the Gloucestershire Road Race Series, Barbara, Ruth and Tony lead their age groups and Simon Campbell is in second place.

Results: 1, John Parker (Cheltenham Harriers) 32.29; 5, Simon Campbell 35.16; 36, Jason Humm 38.50; 65, Howard Ewan 41.02; 72, Tony Shelbourn 41.19; 143, Joanna Roberts 47.19; 209, Barbara Thomas 53.05, 238, Ruth Fulford 57.59. 260 finished.

Shaw Stampede, 10km multi-terrain

ONE of the first really warm days of the year didn’t stop Simon Campbell winning the Shaw Stampede for the second time although he reported that it took him a while to recuperate at the finish.

The heat really had taken it’s toll as Simon’s time of 38.07 was close to a minute slower than last year.

Ray Joslin also donned the club vest and came in 29th in 51.25. 62 very hot runners finished.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trails

DAVID MOSS was taking it easy, as he focuses on his cycling training, and finished 106th in 23.43, while Barbara Thomas was 148th and first VW55-59 in 26.14.

The winner was Gavin Wedlake (Highworth Running Club) in 16.20 and 472 finished.
