THE M4 Karting Cirencester & District League season came to a close over the last week with CHQ United proving winners on three fronts.

Two convincing victories against under-strength opposition confirmed that they retained their Division One title.

On Thursday evening they thrashed South Cerney, who went into the game knowing that a point would secure them the runners-up spot, 9-0 at Hatherop Park.

Any chance of the visitors finishing second evaporated in the first five minutes as CHQ raced into a two-goal lead, and then hit the back of the Cerney net at regular intervals thereafter. Both Chris and Ben Saunders scored hat-tricks, with the other goals coming from Peter Waugh, Jamie Morse and Joe Blackford.

The result meant that Poulton, who beat Sherston 3-0 the night before finished the season as Division One runners-up. Poulton's target men were Will Power, John Dawson and Andrew Pritchett.

On Saturday, CHQ dished out another hammering when they entertained Lechlade in their final game of the season, this time hitting 10 goals past a luckless visiting keeper, although Lechlade did manage a consolation goal in response.

Chris Saunders was again the man on target with four goals, which secured him the League's top goalscorer accolade for a second consecutive season.

CHQ`s other scorers were Joe Blackford, Adam Townsend, Jamie Morse, Ben Saunders, Fabian Daniels and Peter Waugh.

CHQ had won the league's premier cup competition, the Arthur Shipway Memorial cup as well as the AlexcarsCirencester Senior Charities Cup.

In addition, CHQ United Reserves capped an excellent season for the club when they beat Division Two champions Kingshill Sports 3-2 in the CIA Mills-Roberts Cup Final.

Despite going 1-0 down in the first few minutes, veteran campaigners David Legg, who scored twice, and Richard Stearn hit the goals to secure the cup.
