TALENTED amateur footballer Josue Antonio will sign a one-year professional contract with Swindon Town FC after winning the Samsung Win A Pro Contract competition.
Defender Josue, 18, from Mitcham, beat more than 5,700 entrants to win the life-changing dream contract with the League One club.
The defender made it through a series of regional trials and assessment days, before competing in an 11-a-side final at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium on March 2.
Following the final, Josue was one of two players selected by Swindon manager Mark Cooper to spend a few days of intense boot-camp training with the first-team squad.
Josue, who currently plays with local side Staines Town FC, was then picked after impressing Cooper and the Swindon coaching staff.
Josue said: “It feels great to have won a professional contract, when I entered I never thought I’d get this far.
“If I play my best this year I might be able to go on to do big things and get an extended contract for the club – that’s my aim.”
Josue will now look to join up with the Swindon squad in the next few months, before signing his professional contract in June.
Swindon manager Mark Cooper said: “I chose Josue as the winner because he is an extremely athletic young man with great physical stature for his age.”
“He has a lot of potential for development and I am looking forward to working with him."
