OAKSEY ran out comfortable winners in the end although they led by just a single goal at the break despite dominating the first half.

Oaksey Res 3

Down Ampney 1

The deadlock was broken when a sublime diagonal ball from defender Richard Lockyear found Ben Wood who then volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.

Oaksey could have had an even better goal late on in the half but Bradley Wickson's 45-yard half volley hit the top of the crossbar.

While Oaksey had the greater number of chances, Down Ampney came close to scoring themselves and it was only defender Dan Strange’s outstretched leg that prevented a certain score.

Wickson got his goal on 56 minutes following good work by Nicky Warman; Wickson took his time before gently lifting the ball over the Ampney keeper.

Nine minutes later home substitute George Jenkins was allowed to run though the visiting defence to make it 3-0.

Ampney got their consolation goal just before the end when a cross from the right somehow hit a home defender and ended in the net.
