CRICKLADE’S stellar triathlete Emma-Kate Lidbury made a spectacular start to her 2014 season when she ran away with the Desert Tri in Palm Springs over the weekend.

Lidbury is now based in Santa Monica, California and she again showed the benefit of training with other world class athletes by finishing in a time of 1min 55.58, almost five minutes clear of her nearest challenger in a field of 213 women. She was beaten only by eight men in the competition.

Lidbury was hampered by a dislocated shoulder in 2013 but still managed two Ironman 70.3 victories in Kansas and Texas.

She will again be targeting the Ironman 70.3 World Championships later this year but plans to compete in her first full Ironman event before the end of the season.
