IN FRONT of a good and knowledgeable crowd, including three winners of the Swindon Advertiser Sports Personality Awards, the Horseshoe ABC once again put on a terrific show at the Next Generation gym in Swindon on Saturday, writes Gary J Regan.

Opening the show was an absolute belter between Jake Stevens (Horseshoe ABC) and Jiley Lamb of Weston-Super-Mare ABC.

Both boxers showed great skill, heart and bags of determination with Lamb winning on a split decision. This bout was awarded the contest of the day by boxing promoter Keith Mayo.

Kayden Connolly (Horseshoe) once again showed his quality in a terrific contest against Scott Davis (Weston-Super-Mare).

Connolly used his superior footwork to cut down the ring and his accurate left jab kept Davis at bay. Connolly took a richly deserved unanimous decision.

George Richardson (Horseshoe) was once again involved in an excellent contest against the shorter but stockier Macaulay Macmillan, (Synwell ABC).

In the first round, Richardson threw good left-right combinations which Macmillan did well to block. In the second Macmillan came out determinedly but was picked off by Richardson as he rushed in and the Horseshoe fighter used his greater hand speed and footwork to confirm victory in the third.

The other Horseshoe boxers fared less well with Jorden Williams losing out to the excellent Jake Stevens (Synwell) and George White to Atit Khan (Birmingham).

There were also spilt-decision losses for Tom Gray and Sam Vallis against Cory Price and Max Smith, of Bridgend ABC and Birmingham ABC respectively.

The two boxers from the Fitzpatrick gym both suffered losses but Gary Kelly was unlucky to miss out on a split decision.

There was also a great bout between Wallace Atwell (Weston-Super-Mare) and Owen Penny (Shepton Mallet ABC).

After sharing two hard-fought rounds both boxers continued to throw heavy punches for the final two minutes with Penny winning on a split decision.

The prizes were handed out by Keith Mayo and IBO Inter-Continental super middleweight champion Kelvin Young.
