CIRENCESTER Golf Club head pro Ed Goodwin and Giuseppe Licata (Bristol Golf Centre), the top two in the Total Triumph Order of Merit, could not be separated at the end of the latest Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Medal at the Knowle club in Bristol.

But it was a congested leaderboard and their one-under par 68s were only good enough to earn a five-way share of the first prize.

Goodwin and Licata were joined at the top by newly-installed West Region PGA captain Andrew March (Brean), Enmore Park’s David Dixon and Knowle amateur Louis O’Regan.

On one of the best days weather-wise of 2014 so far, Dixon, the previous week's winner at Naunton Downs, was the first to hole out for his 68, closely followed by his playing partner March who birdied the last to draw level.

Order of Merit leader Licata, who has been a model of consistency this season, never gave his rivals any chance of closing the gap at the top by also posting a 68.

That score was then matched by O’Regan, whose winning card included four birdies and an eagle.

The final player to claim a share of top spot was Goodwin, who is trying hard to retain his Order of Merit title.
