IT WAS testament to the work done behind the scenes that Didmarton’s home game against Barnwood United proved one of just five played across all the Stroud & District divisions.

And the efforts proved worthwhile as Didmarton edged a physical and scrappy game 3-2.

After a quiet opening half-hour Didmarton broke the deadlock when Lee Keveren slotted past the Barnwood keeper, with his shot creeping into the net.

The second half provided more chances and it was Barnwood who grabbed an equaliser with their forward finding himself in space behind the Didmarton back line to slot in past Waldron. Didmarton hit back through Sam Underwood’s deflected shot which looped into the roof of the Barnwood net.

The away side began to press and were rewarded with a penalty following some contact in the box, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Barnwood’s captain brought them level with a well-struck spot kick.

Didmarton got their third following some great work on the right hand side which saw Chris Salt in behind the Barnwood defence. His low shot was parried by the keeper, allowing Salt to find John Clark who scored number three.

MoM: John Clark.
