FOOTBALL: Oaksey win nine-goal thriller at Lechlade

First published in Sport

DIVISION Two leaders Kingshill Sports and Division One's second-placed team Poulton met in the GFA Minor Cup quarter final, and the tie went to penalties, with Poulton eventually progressing 7-6 in the shoot-out.

After a poor first half, the second period suddenly came to life when Rob Paget and then Steve Andrews put Poulton in control, but two goals in the last 15 minutes from Kingshill`s Dan Fraganoli restored parity to send the game to the spot-kick decider and earn Poulton a home semi final against Tewkesbury Town Reserves.

In Division One of the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League, Bibury Reserves missed the opportunity to close the gap on leaders CHQ when they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at bottom-of-the-table Stratton Utd.

Although Bibury created the better opportunities, Stratton deserved their point with a battling display. Ryan Bowen had put Bibury ahead, but Andy Hester scored Stratton's equaliser.

Their were some excellent close encounters in the other three Division One games, with Oaksey winning 5-4 at Lechlade. Jay Goddard, Joe Webb, Tom Clark and Ashley Andrews were the home side's scorers, with George Crotty (penalty), Dom Bird, Jake Pinnell, and Rob Tupper (2) the Oaksey target men. The winner was struck from close range in the final minutes.

Siddington Sports were also away winners with a 4-3 victory at Real Fairford.

Beeches had led visitors South Cerney 3-1 midway through the second half thanks to two excellent strikes from Danny Gudger and a brilliant individual goal from Jody Lawrence, with Cerney's Mark Loxton keeping them in contention thanks to a stooped header.

With 20 minutes remaining, Cerney upped their game and Loxton scored a second with another header before Rob Mant hit an equaliser with five minutes to go.

Loxton completed his hat-trick and won the points for Cerney when he was on hand to score from close range in the final minute.

In Division Two, second-placed Siddington Sports Veterans closed in on leaders Kingshill with an impressive 4-1 away victory at Ashton Keynes.

Luke Liston hit Ashton's consolation goal. Basement side Minety gained an impressive point with a 2-2 draw at South Cerney Reserves; Tony Hammersley and John Hughill got their goals.

Tetbury thirds, despite home advantage and taking the lead through a Francis Eddols goal, lost 2-1 to Lechlade Reserves.

CHQ Reserves were trailing 2-0 at half-time at home to Oaksey Reserves with goals from Iuean Walton and Simon Rose seemingly putting the visitors in control.

However, a revitalised CHQ side scored four times after the break through Connor Adams, Danny Pugh and David Legg (2) to keep them in the leading pack.
