PREVIOUS winners Rod Hibbitt (Cotswold Edge) and Cirencester main man Ed Goodwin had to settle for joint third place in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Pairs Championships at Burnham and Berrow.
The overall prize went to Mendip Club pro Kevin Pitts and Farrington Park teaching professional Terry Williams, who navigated the tricky Channel course in a score of eight under par 62 to beat the rest of the field by two shots. Goodwin and Hibbitt shot 65.
For once the trip to the seaside wasn’t accompanied by much of a breeze and once the early rain had moved away a pleasant day followed for the 15 pairs taking part. With conditions being fairly benign scoring was expected to be low with some sub-60 winning scores having been achieved in previous years.
For whatever reason, no pair broke that barrier on this occasion.
