THE Intermediate County Cup took centre stage this week with five Division One clubs from the Cirencester & District league involved.

CHQ demolished Randwick Reserves 8-0, with Chris Saunders hitting three goals on his return from suspension. Ben Saunders also found the net twice, and there were further goals coming from Jamie Morse, Charlie Needham and Robert Lott.

Bibury Reserves netted four times without reply at home to Mushet & Coalway, with a Nathan Brunton brace and goals from Ryan Bowen and Craig Donnan.

South Cerney had to battle to overcome visitors Tuffley Rovers III. After a goalless first half, they fell behind early in the second period following a defensive lapse. However, a clever lob from Ian McSherry restored parity, which was quickly followed by Mark Loxton turning in a low cross to put Cerney ahead.

Tuffley fought well to force an equaliser, but the home defence were solid and few opportunities were created, whereas Cerney looked the most likely to score again. The goal eventually came ten minutes from time when an exquisite free kick from McSherry went in off the post to secure victory.

Jody Lawrence scored for Beeches at home to Newent Town Reserves, but the visitors scored twice in reply to progress. Real Fairford went through to the next round without kicking a ball as their opponents, Thornbury Reserves failed to raise a side.

In Division One, the local derby in Wiltshire between Sherston and Oaksey, saw the visitors secure the points with goals from Jake Peglar and Chris Brookes, who hit a stunning 25-yard strike. Sherston will rue missing an open goal in the second half as they tried to force themselves back into the game.

Siddington Sports had a 4-0 victory over Stratton Utd with goals from Connor Moody, Aidan Cressey, Kieron Wickens and Robbie Hendry, in an excellent game, very well controlled by young referee Steven Cook. United slipped to the foot of the table after their second defeat.

In Division Two, Kingshill Sports head the table after beating Tetbury Town III 6-1, with Toby Harris hitting a hat-trick. Tommy Gardner scored twice and the other goal came from Jamie Harris.

Oaksey Res are second on goal difference with maximum points from their three games after they beat South Cerney Res 7-2, with Ieuan Walton (3), Bradley Wickson (2), George Jenkins and Kier Miles the scorers. Rob Dickson and Jordan Allen responded for Cerney.

Down Ampney picked up their first points of the season with a 4-1 home win over bottom club Minety. Carl Prosser was another hat-trick scorer and Martin Swadden got the fourth. Minety responded through Kyle Wheeler. Siddington Sports Veterans won a close encounter 2-1 at Lechlade Res, with Declan King notching both their goals.
