Four tries not enough as Ciren go down fighting

The now traditional slow start from Ciren allowed Burnham in for an early try but James Fisher soon responded with a penalty.

Ciren were the busier side around the park and strung numerous phases together, one of them resulting in Fisher crashing over for a converted try.

Burnham had the upper hand in the scrum, though, and responded with a score from a pushover try, Darren Moore was sin-binned in the process, which was followed by two controversial scores, one of which infuriated the away side after the linesman raised his flag for touch only to drop it down when the Somerset winger scored, duping the referee. Ciren responded immediately with veteran Adam Seager scoring following some good work at the kick off from Ed Alderman.

Burnham then fell foul of the referee themselves and MoM Matt Harman smashed his way over in the corner to cut the deficit.

The Somerset side then scored a sixth try following some missed tackles in the midfield before Ciren winger Dave Evans responded with a well-taken score. The last ten minutes were frantic with Burnham hanging on for dear life as Ciren hammered their line. One final push for line was foiled and the final whistle blown leaving coach Dean Hammett thinking what could have been.
