STOW kept their unbeaten league season going with an emphatic win against Phoenix, although it did take 20 minutes for them to find their stride.

All the pressure came from the home side, but resolute defending and missed opportunities meant there was no score until a Nick Cafearo penalty. After this breakthrough, the floodgates opened.

Matt Green broke from a scrum and released James Holmes to score his first try of the day; Cafearo converted.

Holmes soon doubled his account when he chased a kick through which Cafearo again converted. Next, it was Holmes the provider, as he made a blind side run before offloading to scorer Andrew Piercey; Cafearo slotted the awkward conversion.

From the restart, Hugo Griffiths collected the ball and gained valuable ground before passing to Cafearo, who broke a couple of tackles to score under the posts, leaving him a simple conversion. The last try of the half came from forwards' pressure – Craig Chapman picked up and touched down, before Cafearo completed the conversion to make it 38-0 at the break.

Stow did not let up in the second half, and a tiring Phoenix were constantly on the back foot.

A maul on the left saw captain Tim Peachey appear with the ball and score.

Good hands in the backs resulted in Cafearo going over in the corner, and from the restart it was Cafearo who ran the ball back, before offloading to Holmes for a clear run in under the posts; Cafearo again converted.

To their credit, Phoenix briefly rallied and from a five-metre scrum scored a converted try.

Their rally was short-lived, however, as three further tries from Holmes took his tally to six on the day.
