Happy New Year.

FIRSTLY, Happy New Year to you all, I hope you had a great Christmas. It has been a long while since my last column and, in between, I have consumed a mountain of Christmas treats. I am about to run in this afternoon's 1.55 at Ludlow (Wednesday). I’ll update you on how I did via twitter @peopleshorse– after I‘ve got my breath back!

A Festive Review.

A QUICK update on my stablemates’ exploits – not that there have been many with all this wet weather! The yard’s two runners ran respectably to finish third and fifth. This week has been much busier with one of us heading racing most days all over the country including Chepstow, Ludlow and Huntingdon.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we have lots of stablemates entered at Warwick including Thunder Sheik, Silver Roque, Farmer Matt, and Bradley, who is in the big race on Saturday – The Betfred Classic Chase (1.50pm) which you can see on Channel 4.

A winning Christmas.

A FEW of the local trainers have had a winning Christmas. Tom George (Slad) had a great couple of weeks with his talented young jumper, Module, who won at Newbury. Big Fella Thanks – a fancy for this year’s Grand National – won well at Wincanton last weekend. African Gold, Nigel Twiston-Davies’ young hurdler, continued his winning streak over the festive period with a win at Newbury in very muddy conditions.

Jonjo O’Neill has had a few nice winners, the most notable being Taquin Du Seuil who won the Grade One Challow Hurdle (a top race) at Newbury on December 29. Perhaps he’ll go for the Neptune Investment Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March.

Naunton’s female trainer, Emma Baker had a late Christmas present delivered by her mother’s horse Midnight Charmer on December 30 in a thrilling finish when beating the favourite by a neck at Taunton.

#TentoFollowTeam.

WE HAD had a good Christmas period with our Ten to Follow Team. Simonsig stormed home by a whopping 49 lengths at Ascot and followed it up with another impressive win by 35 lengths at Kempton Park. His Cheltenham prep run is likely to be at Newbury on February 9. Blink and you’ll miss him!

Boston Bob and Module also won for us.
