LOVE is in the air at Cirencester Town. Both manager Brian Hughes and captain Jamie Reid proposed to their long-term partners over the Christmas period, while striker Scott Griffin and his fiancée have also decided to take the plunge after an engagement lasting almost four years.

Hughes and his fiancée Clare Cox have been together for more than five years and the Ciren boss popped the question on Christmas Day in front of both sets of parents at home in South Cerney.

“We are hoping the Vicar of Dibley will be free to marry us in May, 2014,” joked Hughes.

While on a festive break in New York, Reid went down on one knee to ask for fiancée Rhiannon Jones’s hand in marriage – not an easy task as he is currently recovering from a broken leg.

“I gave Rhiannon the ring outside the Rockefeller Centre on the Saturday before New Year,” said Reidy.

“Someone obviously had the same idea and had hired the ice rink there to pop the question to his fiancée in front of a whole crowd of people with music and the whole works, so I felt a little upstaged.

“We bought some champagne at a local wine bar and toasted the moment before calling our families back home.”

The inconvenience of wearing a protective boot and hobbling around on crutches may have made proposing rather awkward for Reid but it did open other doors.

“We were dragged out of a long queue at passport control and sent straight through to baggage reclaim,” recalled Reid, “and we jumped a potential four-hour queue at the Empire State Building because of my injury.”

Griffin and his partner Emma Charlton have been together for seven years and share four children.

“We have been engaged for nearly four years and I don’t know why I have been avoiding the wedding for so long,” said Griff, who doubles up as striker on the pitch and club secretary off it.

“So just before Christmas we decided to go ahead and we are now planning a summer wedding.

“Emma has started looking at wedding dresses and this week we are going to see a couple of possible venues.”

Completing the ‘loved-up’ quartet of Centurions, midfielder James Mortimer-Jones proposed to his girlfriend Amy during the summer of 2012 and they are planning to wed next year.
