COTSWOLD East Project, which is managed by Fairford Cricket Club and provides cricket coaching at eight primary schools in the area, has won the Chance to Shine Project of the Year Award at the Brit Insurance Annual Achievement Awards.
The Chance to Shine Scheme run by the Cricket Foundation is designed to bring cricket back into state schools, encourage girls and boys to join cricket clubs, play competitively and deliver a sustainable future for the game.
The judges praised how the project went about generating greater activity and increasing awareness of the Chance to Shine scheme and the benefits that it brings. They also commended the success that the project has had in convincing girls that cricket is a game that they can play and enjoy.
Coaching for the project was conducted by local cricketers David Taylor and Ed Thomason, with the support of teachers from the primary schools.
The presentation was made by the former England pace bowler Devon Malcolm to project manager David Taylor during a celebration dinner in the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
