MALMESBURY ABC'S Sam Jenner turned in a mature performance to be crowned Junior BBA Champion of the Western Counties at Bournemouth last Friday.

Jenner faced Southern Division Champion Jameel Sandam from Launceston and took his time in the opening round before opening up in the second and connecting with both hands.

Carrying his head high, Sandam presented an easy target for Jenner's right hand and he was not going to ignore the invitation. The Launceston boy was visibly shaken with right crosses and left hooks.

Jenner upped the pace in the last round and had the fading Sandam under constant pressure with jabs and follow-up hooks to run out a winner by a wide decision from all three judges.

Sam will now box the Southern Area Champion in Southampton on May 18 along with Joe Hughes, who had a walkover at the Western Counties stage.

Charlie Austin, 13, making his debut for Malmesbury ABC, was a convincing points winner against Nick Gibbins from Wye at Lydney earlier this week.
